Phone Scams

Recently, there has been a number of phone scams reported to the Village of North Syracuse Police Department.  One was an individual who called a local business claiming to be from National Grid Collection and demanded immediate payment or their power would be shut off.  National Grid recently put out a news release warning customers of this particular scam and indicated that the company does call people about delinquent payments but never demands payment.  The second scam involved a similar situation purportedly from a well known company demanding payment.  In both situations, the scammer requested payment via pre-paid card or a wire transfer. Remember, scammers can be very convincing; they may even have personal information such as exact balance figures, due dates and account numbers.  Residents should always be leery of these situations and should always attempt to verify all information before providing payments.  If you believe you have been the victim of a phone scam, or other form of fraud, please do not hesitate to contact the Village of North Syracuse Police Department.  Click on the below link to learn of additional tips to protect you from other forms of fraud.
